Tech Help:
Illegal System DLL Relocation..........

Q. When I start my computer a box comes up with the message "RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation." What's this mean and how do I fix it?

A. RTHDCPL.EXE is part of the audio controls for the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel, part of the software load for certain Realtek sound cards, one of which must be part of your computer's hardware configuration.

As it happens, if you install Microsoft security updates 925902 (MS07-017) and security update 928843 (MS07-008) they will sometimes cause the problem you are experiencing.
Microsoft had to rush these patches to market to address a major security flaw which you might have read about so it's not surprising this type of problem might crop up.

Not to worry, Microsoft acknowledges the problem and offers a fix just for computers affected by this little technical hiccup and you can find it in Microsoft KB935448.
Just review the Web site then download and install the update. After a quick system reboot your problem should be resolved.

I had the above problem and the Microsoft fix worked...
